Sinhagad Fort
Considered as one of the major and famous forts of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Sinhagad is a fort located near the city of Pune in Maharashtra. There is a fort in Donje village in Haveli taluka and Tanaji Malusare, a loyal and brave Sardar of the Maharaja, brought this fort under Swarajya as a condition of his prowess.
Sinhagad Fort was initially known as “Kondhana” after Kaundinya. After his release from Agra, Chatrapati Shivaji Raje started to recover the forts that had been taken over by the Mughals. Chatrapati Shivaji Raje was determined to fulfill Jijamata’s wish that Kondhana should return to Swarajya. As Tanaji Malusare’s son Raiba was married at that time, Chatrapati Shivaji Raje hid this mansuba from him. But when Tanaji realized this, he set aside his son’s marriage and promised Chantrapati Shivaji Raje to bring Kondhana back to Swarajya. And keeping his promise, he sacrificed his life and brought Kondhana back to Swarajya.
